West End: walkable and social
West End is a mile-long strip along a paved road, packed with dive shops, small hotels, restaurants, and bars — all walkable without a car. It's the better base if you want nightlife, an easy choice of places to eat within a short walk, and a more budget-friendly range of accommodation. Diving and snorkeling here are excellent, with several shops running trips right from the strip.
West Bay: beach-first and resort-style
West Bay is built around one of the most photographed beaches in Honduras — calm, clear water and easy shore access to the reef. It has a more resort-oriented feel, with activity operators offering everything from parasailing to snorkeling tours, but properties are more spread out, and some vacation rentals sit on steep roads that are easier to reach with a car. It's the better pick if your priority is beach time over nightlife.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose West End if you want to walk to dinner, prioritize dive shops and nightlife, or are traveling on a tighter budget.
- Choose West Bay if a calm, easy-access beach is the main event and you don't mind driving to get around.
- Can't decide? They're close enough — about a 10–15 minute drive apart — that many visitors base themselves in one and visit the other for a day.
Getting around
Having a car makes it easy to split time between both areas, and to reach spots further out like Sandy Bay or Gumbalimba Park. Pick up your rental right at our Roatán Airport branch on arrival.
