Not every trip needs the same car. Here's a quick way to think about which category fits your Honduras itinerary.
Economy or Compact
Good for travelers sticking mostly to paved roads — city driving in La Ceiba or San Pedro Sula, day trips along the coastal highway, or airport-to-hotel transfers. Easy to park, and the lightest on fuel.
SUV
Our most popular category, and for good reason: a bit more ground clearance and comfort for longer drives, extra luggage space for families or groups, and enough capability for the occasional unpaved stretch on the way to a national park or a quieter beach.
Pickup
Worth considering if you're traveling with gear — surfboards, dive equipment, camping supplies — or heading toward rural areas with rougher roads. The open bed is handy, just plan for weather if you're carrying anything that shouldn't get wet.
Minivan
The comfortable choice for larger groups or families traveling together with luggage, especially if you're covering longer distances like La Ceiba to San Pedro Sula in one trip.
Our advice
If most of your trip is city-to-city on the main highways, an economy or compact car will save you money without any real downside. If your itinerary includes national parks, rural beaches, or you'd simply rather have the extra room, step up to an SUV. Every reservation includes basic insurance and unlimited mileage, so the price you see is the price you pay either way.
