Landing at SAP

Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport (IATA code SAP) is about 11 km southeast of San Pedro Sula, roughly a 15–20 minute drive from the city center. It's Honduras's busiest airport and the main entry point for visitors flying in from the US and Europe, with easy road connections to the rest of the country from here.

Why rent a car here

San Pedro Sula sits at a crossroads — it's the natural starting point whether you're heading inland to the Maya ruins at Copán, up into the hills around Lago de Yojoa, or east along the coast toward La Ceiba and Tela. Renting here instead of relying on shuttles or intercity buses means you set your own schedule for stops along the way.

Where a rental car takes you from here

  • Copán Ruinas — the Maya ruins of Copán, a scenic drive west, generally figured at around 2.5–3 hours depending on the route and stops.
  • Lago de Yojoa — Honduras's largest lake, with birdwatching, coffee farms, and waterfalls nearby, roughly midway between San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa.
  • La Ceiba & Tela — the north coast beaches and Pico Bonito, a couple of hours east along the highway.

Good to know

If your trip spans both San Pedro Sula and the north coast, ask about one-way rentals — you can pick up here and drop off at our La Ceiba or Roatán branch instead of driving back to return the car.
